Getting rotary: introduction of rotary quern stones in Ancient Bactria
Original language description
Our overview of the finds clearly attests, 3rd and 4th c. AD has been correctly determined by the Soviet scholars as the period of the introduction of the rotary querns in Central Asia. In other words, there is - so far - no strong evidence for the earlier use of the rotary quern technology, since dating of finds to the first two centuries AD is still rather exceptional (cf. Mirzakul Tepa) and deserves thus our evaluation. As a rule, number of saddle querns at a site, typically distinctly exceeds that of rotary querns.
