Original language description
Starting from the language education policy of Europe (the Council of Europe, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, multilingualism), the paper outlines the contemporary education system in the Czech Republic, its history and traditions with respect to the role of the language policy and teaching. Main language teaching methods are shortly introduced and the communicative approach is illustrated on teaching Czech as a second (foreign) language. Finally, history, status and perspectives of teaching Czech for Chinese students are commented.
