Concept "struggle" in the political discourse in the Czech Republic and Russia
Original language description
Concept "struggle" is one of the basic notions of the political discourse. It represents important values of the definite political party or the whole country (what we are fighting for?), reasons of the confrontation (why we are fighting?) and different kinds of political relationships (who is fighting?). Concept "struggle" is linked with the stereotypes, specifically stereotypical fears of the society which can be born and cultivated in the public speeches or mass media. From this point of view we can talk about manipulative potential of this concept, which is based on the picture of the world of a target audience. The politician speaks about the definite problematic issues that cause alarm and concern among the recipients about their security and well-being. Thus, through verbalization of the concept "struggle", a politician promises the satisfaction of one of the basic human needs - the need for safety.
