Original language description
The text is a comprehensive introductory study by the editors to the book "The Philosophy, Theology, and Rhetoric of Marius Victorinus". The authors summarize relevant knowledge about the personality and work of Marius Victorinus based on research to date. After the reconstruction of Victorinus's biography, a chapter is devoted to Victorinus's pre-Christian writings from the area of artes liberales, especially logic, grammar and rhetoric. In the following chapter, Victorinus's theological work and its historical dogmatic context are presented. Finally, Victorinus's exegetical writings, namely his commentaries on the epistles of St. Paul are dealt with. A special chapter is concerned with the question of the philosophical sources of Victorinus's theological work, which is intensively discussed in research and has not yet reached a generally accepted conclusion. At the end, the content of the individual chapters of the book is briefly summarized.
