Robinson Jeffers’s Pilgrimage through the Iron Curtain: The Beloved Shepherd
Original language description
The study focuses on case study of the production and reception of Robinson Jeffers's (1887-1962) translated epic poems in former Czechoslovakia prior to 1989. I argue that it was not just his literary association with the "West", but rather the very system of centrally controlled publishing and readership that - paradoxically - made Jeffers one of the most widely read poets in the Czech language.
