    Artikkelen undersoker likheter mellom &quot;Glahns dod. Et papir fra 1861&quot;, dvs. den andre delen av Knut Hamsuns roman Pan (1894), og Joseph Conrads roman Heart of Darkness (1899). Den komparative analysen påviser at de to tekstene har flere fellestrekk både når det gjelder plassering av handlingen, tematikken og fortelleteknikken, og artikkelen beskriver noen av disse fellestrekkene som modernistiske og bekrefter begge romanenes plassering i den tidlige modernismen. Dette er den forste detaljerte komparative analysen av disse to romanene, herav artikkelens originalitet.
