Recent excavations in 2019 by the Egyptian mission directed by Mohamed Megahed in the north-east part of King Djedkare's royal cemetery at south Saqqara, have revealed a mastaba tomb of Khuwy, a high-ranking official who served as secretary of king Djedkare during the late Fifth Dynasty (c. 25th century BC). The antechamber and burial chamber contained the remains of a mummified body. Radiocarbon dating of the remains are consistent with the identification of the body as being that of Khuwy. This is a rare example of an Old Kingdom mummy and its analysis dramatically changes our understanding of Old Kingdom mummification technology.
