Morphosyntactic Properties of Ideophones in the Languages of Central and Northeast Asia

  • Original language description

Languages of Central and East Asia are known for their large repertoires of ideophonic expressions of various kinds. In this paper, such expressions from multiple languages of the area will be discussed with a special emphasis on their morphosyntactic properties. The discussion will not be limited to only well studied languages such as Japanese and Korean, attention will also be given to less studied languages such as Khalkha Mongolian and Sibe, ideophonic expressions of which have not been widely written about. The properties of these words will be compared across languages.
