Exploring the Pursuit of Home in Exile Within the Novel Mornings in Jenin

  • Original language description

The objective of this article is to analyse the construction of home in the novel Mornings in Jenin within the context of the Palestinian diasporic condition. The research delves into the exploration of the pursuit of home and a sense of belonging, as well as the potential for reconstructing these aspects within the state of exile. The primary focus is on the issue of exile within and outside the homeland, aiming to redefine the concept of home and comprehend its various nuances, which are conditioned by the context and constantly changing circumstances. Following a critical review of theories pertaining to the concept of home and their relevance to this study, the novel is examined within this theoretical framework, with a specific focus on the ways in which various nuances of home complement or even redefine its conventional definitions. The paper aims to capture the essence of home as reflected in the narrative and to evaluate its feasibility within the novel. An in-depth analysis of home construction in Mornings in Jenin is expected to broaden the scope of research in modern Palestinian literature and provide new insights into the possibility of constructing home in exile.
