Original language description
Important work in a relatively new, exploratory, and actively debated research concerning the relationship between multimodal interaction and grammatical organization, specifically within the framework of Construction Grammar. Focusing primarily on the largely unexplored questions of which gestural and phonetic features can be established as sufficiently conventional properties of everyday verbal interactions, the chapters provide new insights as well as challenges for grammatical generalizations that aspire to integrate systematic contributions of auditory and visual channels in sufficiently comprehensive and cognitively realistic representations of grammatical patterning attested in authentic communication. The book is of interest both as a theoretical and methodological contribution and as a source of varied linguistic data (English, Modern Greek, Czech, Hebrew, Italian).
