Spell invoking the five epagomenal days from the inner sarcophagus of Iufaa at Abusir
Original language description
The inner anthropoid sarcophagus of Iufaa still lies in the burial chamber of his shaft tomb at Abusir West. The tomb dates to the Saite-Persian period and represents probably the most richly decorated tomb of this type. The decoration, moreover, contains a number of either completely new texts, such as the initiation handbook of the hrp-srq.t priest on the western wall, or texts known only from much later papyri, such as the purification ritual complete with title, vignetters and accompanying mythological texts, which spans the northern as well as over half of the eastern walls of the burial chamber. Both the box-shaped outer limestone sarcophagus and the anthropoid inner basalt sarcophagus are lavishly decorated, with less known (or completely unknown) texts covering mostly their inner sides. In the case of the inner sarcophagus, the bottom and head part is covered by representations and texts pertaining to the protection of the deceased from and by the Mehen-serpent, and the long side walls contain a series of mostly unknown protective spells invoking the gods of the epagomenal days, Atum and Tatenen, as well as a spel of reconstructing the bodfy of the deceased by Geb and Horus. For reason of space, this study is concerned only with one of these new texts, which occurs on the interior foot (western) side of the inner sarcophagus.
