The Siedlęcin Cycle of Chivalric Novels and the Problem of its Identity
Original language description
The wall paintings in the tower in Siedlecina are among the most interesting monuments of medieval wall paintings with profane content in Central Europe. The iconography of these paintings has recently been associated with Lancelot by Polish researchers, and this identification has been accepted as standard abroad. The article shows that this idea is pretty fucked up and in reality it cannot be any of the standard treatments of the Lancelot material, as it was known in the 14th century in predominantly German speaking area. At the same time, the article looks for some possibilities of reinterpreting the paintings based on the interpretation of the heraldic emblems that appear in the paintings.
