Ecodesign is an important means in waste prevention as many of the future environmental impacts of a product may be significantly affected during the designing phase. Such requirements on products as durability, reparability and upgradeability may lead to product lifetime extension and so may minimize the amount of waste. This paper focuses on current legal regulation of ecodesign in connection to waste prevention at the European law level and considers the prospective future developments in this field.
