A New Space Act for Cyprus

  • Original language description

Through the adoption of its own Space Law in October 2023, Cyprus has joined a growing number of countries in having national space legislation. The newly adopted Space Law provides rules for the authorisation of space activities, registration of space objects, space debris miti-gation, liability and insurance among other areas. Through the legislation, Cyprus seeks to lay a foundation for the diversification of its economic sectors, the creation of skilled jobs, and the strengthening of its space ecosys-tem. At the same time, Cyprus aspires to become a re-gional space hub in the future, based inter alia on a trans-parent, predictable and reliable legal framework. This article aims to address briefly the main provisions of the newly established framework, with respect to the obli-gations arising from international agreements. Also, other recently adopted national space laws in Europe will be taken into consideration.
