The tablioidisation of the Czech daily press
Original language description
Tabloidisation of the press is one of the concepts widely used to describe the process of contemporary news media change. The term itself conveys different meanings in various media systems. The paper examines tabloidisation of major Czech dailies between the years 19952005. Quantitative content analysis replicating the methodology used by Uribe and Gunter (2004) revealed the tabloidisation of Czech dailies did not happen in all its aspects and in all three most widely-read dailies to the same extend. Recent development of Czech dailies has not meant the decrease of space devoted to information genres. However, the increase of soft news at the expense of hard news, the increase of private framing of public figures and the increase of home news at the expanse of foreign news have been detected.
