Is the Glass Half-empty or Half-full?
Original language description
The paper deals with the divergence of views in Russia and Western Europe on the events of Polish November uprising in 1830. The western public opinion adopted strictly anti-Russian stance since the Napoleonic wars. It was further strengthened by Russia's negative stance towards French July revolution and also events in Belgium. Contrary to this, perception in the Russian public remained loyal to the Tsarist regime. During the Polish uprising, Nicholas I. became the main opressor for European public, while in Russia even the well-known liberals did not challenge Russia's right to fight against Poland.
