Czech Communists and the Crisis : Between Radical Alternative and Pragmatic Europeanisation
Original language description
The chapter analysis the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM), the only communist party in East-Central Europe that survived the end of the Eastern bloc without changing its name or giving up its anti-capitalist, anti-liberal and anti-Western appeals. The largest political party in the Czech Republic, the KSČM has been a conservative entity and a protest party. Unable to exploit the chances brought about by the crisis either intellectually or politically thanks to its internal divisions, limited intellectual capacity and predominantly conservative identity, the KSČM has never played an inspiring and integrating role on the left.
