This monograph discuss the early history of communications research since 1930's until 1949. Main subject of the book is the person, research projects and methodology of Paul Lazarafeld. Lazarsfeld started his media and communications research in Vienna in 1931. His first study was big audience research - RAVAG project. He followed media and communications studies in the United States. In 1937 he has been established as a director of Princeton Radio Project. Later in 1940's he came to Columbia University to New York. There he founded The Bureau of Applied Social Research. The book discuss many American investigations made by Paul Lazarsfeld and his close collaborators during the 1930's and in 1940's.
