Discourse on Public Spaces: Praguers in the Process of Globalization Changes and the Neoliberal Economy
Original language description
The text discusses selected aspects of discourse on the public space in Prague of 2010 - 2014. It interprets the data of the survey among citizens and shows the shifts in perception of public space of the city inhabitants and the academic discourse. The author shows what does mean the public space for individual actors, especially users versus public space administrators. He indicates what the inhabitants of Prague are criticizing in the public space and especially their critics in the use of the public space for commercial purposes and in the tourist industry. He shows that, in particular, the administration has a wide potential for commercial behavior in the post-socialist city, and the role of the entrepreneur can outweigh the role of the service provider to citizens.
