Researchers' Positionalities in Sport for Development: 'Global North', 'Global South', but What is In-Between?
Original language description
This chapter explores sport for development (SfD) programmes in Global North and South contexts, focusing on language, power dynamics, and researcher identity. It reveals the fluidity of the Global North researcher identity, influenced by gender, class, race, education, and language skills. The authors conducted ethnographic research in Brazil and Colombia, underlining language's role in power relations. They emphasize the need for a more nuanced view of SfD research, transcending North/South binaries, valuing local knowledge, and challenging colonial dynamics. This study underscores the importance of local language proficiency, advocating for a more inclusive and reflexive approach to SfD research.
