Attitudes of Students in Communication Disciplines towards Socially Sensitive Language
Original language description
This study examines attitudes of communication students toward socially sensitive and inclusive language. Conducted during the 2022/2023 academic year at Charles University, the research collected 93 responses through an open-ended survey. Students identified inclusive language as a tool to respect diverse identities, linking it to gender-neutral terms, nonbinary expressions, and social equality. While many supported its principles, they expressed concerns about practicality, clarity, and linguistic complexity in Czech. Some viewed it as forced or unnatural, fearing overregulation. The study concludes that while inclusive language reflects societal needs, achieving balance between equality, functionality, and natural grammar is crucial.
