Original language description
The aim of this paper is to explore the sources of technocratic attitudes; that is, attitudes that support expert-driven governance. The aim is to focus on the post-communist countries of CEE, as support for technocracy in politics is higher in CEE compared to Western European countries. The analysis shows that people living in CEE countries see expert governance as compatible with democracy and also see it as a way to improve the functioning of democratic institutions. The results show a different pattern compared to Western European countries, where technocracy is perceived among the people as an alternative to democratic governance as such.
