    The paper is an extended presentation of a research project focusing on the control and identifiaction techniques exercised by the reformed police in the Habsburg monarchy between 1770 and 1820. The main hypothesis consists in the assumption that these techniques and administrative treatements had an important effect on potential equal citizen status of the policed population.
