"Comparing Hungarian and Polish Constitutionalism in Late XVIII Century"
Original language description
The article assesses the notion of constitutionalism in late 18th century Hungary and Poland. More precisely, it explores, in a comparative perspective, the constitutional projects of the early 1790s in both countries in the context of their constitutional tradition and as a reflection of the ideas of the Enlightenment. The assessment of the problem includes brief characteristics of the political structure as well as the crown-estates relationship in Hungary and Poland. Last but not least, in this article I argue that at the bottom of these constitutional projects stood the idea of social solidarity and the concept of the political nationhood in both countries.
