Ludvík’s Awakening: Dreamlike Experience in the Work of Milan Kundera
Original language description
Dreamlike experience (oneirism), in the broadest sense of this expression, is one of thefundamental aspects of the œuvre of Milan Kundera. This concerns a phenomenon so diversified aswell as complex that the breadth of its scope might intimidate and deter any potential investigator. It therefore appears strategically advantageous to choose one of its aspects, which I have attemptedin two previous studies (Češka 2011, Češka 2014). First of all I focused on novel writing as anarticulation of a certain dreamlike experience (in this I understood the dream as a fundamentalhermeneutic perspective of the work), and then later I concentrated on the dream as a narrativestrategy, which facilitates a systematic attack on the boundary between the real and the imaginary. In the previous studies I limited myself only to Kundera’s novel writing, while in this study I wouldlike to pay attention also to Kundera’s earlier output.
