Conceptions of the Vacuum in the Seventeenth-Century Czech Lands
Original language description
The article presents the debates on the vacuum held by 17th century Bohemia-based scholars, at the centre of which stood the traditional Aristotelian doctrine of the impossibility of an extended vacuum. The efforts of the scholars as Valerian Magni, the Arriaga, Marcus Marci, or Comenius represent a diverse range reflecting the early modern tendencies that eventually led to the downfall of Aristotelian scholasticism.
