Trinitarian and Social Ontology in the Czech Theological Thinking (1945-1989)
Original language description
he article gives an overview of the development of Czech political theology in the post-war period 1945-1989. It focuses mainly on two important stages of this development - the immediate post-war years 1945-1948, and then the period beginning at the end of the 1960s and continuing through the 1970s and 1980s. It has two main aims: First, it seeks to compare these stages in the development of theological thought and to identify the major transformations that took place during this period. Secondly, it seeks to show the connection between different kinds of political theology and fundamental theological principles, especially the Trinitarian mystery. It argues that theologians of the first period (represented mainly by the Jesuit Adolf Kajpr) emphasised the integral vision of social and political order based on the key principles of Christian revelation. Trinitarian ontology thus forms the basis of social ontology in their work. The later stage of development (represented by the theologians Josef Zvěřina and Oto Mádr), however, places more emphasis on the autonomy of the secular order and conceptualises theology as a critical voice in political discussion rather than as a source of foundational principles of the social order.
