Mariology of Gregory of Nyssa as a Concretization of his Trinitarian Personalism
Original language description
In my chapter I examine various Marian themes in the work of Gregory of Nyssa. This allows an original vision of the Mother of Jesus as a woman characterised by her relationships with the individual Persons of the Trinity. Because of her unique role in the Incarnation of the Word, this woman becomes the prototype of a redeemed and deified humanity that can thus participate in and be transformed by the immanent life of God. This is particularly evident in the example of God's attributes such as ἀπάθεια, ἀφθαρσία, καθαρότης or spiritual fruitfulness, which Gregory finds both in the Trinity and in Mary. My paper also shows how the bishop of Nyssa transforms classical metaphysics to fit the Trinitarian image of God and what implications it has for anthropology.
