Original language description

This article explores holiness in relation to martyrdom, in particular that of the Jesuit theologian Ignacio Ellacuria (1930-1989). It introduces the life and work of Ellacuria and interprets his martyrdom drawing mainly on the writings of Jon Sobrino. Sobrino&apos;s ideas of political holiness and Jesuanic martyrdom are examined. Moreover, the article pays attention to historical parallels between struggles for freedom and liberation in El Salvador and Czechoslovakia.
