Judicial agon in Chrysostom's 50th homily In Acta apostolorum
Original language description
The article deals with the interpretation of Acts 23:31-24:21 in Chrysostomian 50th homily In Acta apostolorum in Migne's edition. It discusses the need of an up-to-date critical edition of the homilies and points to limitations which result from use ofMigne's text. It presents a survey of the of 50th homily's content and focuses mainly on how the commentator explained the rhetorical agon of Tertullus and Paul in front of Felix. It explores the strategy of the prosecutor's party and the arguments of the defendant and concludes that the commentator based his interpretation on patterns of epideictic oratory.
