Reflections on the Church in the Pandemic
Original language description
The paper reflects on the resilience of the Catholic Church by observing its behavior during the lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic. The parallel of martial arts and Bruce Lee's statements shows that the emphasis on tradition suppresses adaptability and weakens resilience in crises. It pays particular attention to the emphasis of church officials on maintaining the distribution of the Eucharist and providing alternative options for attending Mass, which the author argues is at odds with the decision to insist on priestly celibacy in the case of church communities in the Amazon following the 2019 Amazon Synod.
