We evaluated shape characteristics of Mallomonas kalinae silica-scales and their position on cells. The shape of the scales was significantly related to their position on cells and the related morphological trend was correlated with the first axis of therelative warps analysis that spanned most of the variation of the investigated data set. The position-related shape variation forms an inherent part of overall morphological variability of Mallomonas scales.
