Editorial overview: Cell biology
Original language description
Everything in plant life should be explained as an outcome of changes in particular cells - established the botanical co-founder of the cellular theory Matthias Schleiden in the middle of 19th century. Equally however, changes in cells need to be understood as changes imposed by the developmental state of the plant organism as a whole - stressed only few years later Anton de Bary. Indeed, the different contributions to this volume go back and forth from the cellular to the organismal level, highlightingthe intimate association of cellular mechanisms with developmental and physiological processes. As readers will find, this volume encompasses diverse aspects of plant cell biology and at the same time, some of the papers are synergistic and/or complementary. The division of papers into categories was made primarily for readability and focusing. Yet, most of the papers could fit in several categories and we strongly recommend reading all of them.
