Microscopic characterization of crystalline and amorphous varieties of SiO2 exhibiting different ASR potential
Original language description
Both crystalline and amorphous varieties of SiO2 from several localities in the Czech Republic and Sweden were subjected to experimental testing by use of accelerated mortar bar test (AMBT, following ASTM C1260), and various microscopic techniques (polarizing microscopy combined with cathodoluminescence (CL) microscopy, spectroscopy, and petrographic image analysis). The expansion values of the mortar bars were correlated with phase and with the microstructural and CL spectral characteristics of selected aggregates.
