Discourse On European Values: The Case of the Northern Caucasus
Original language description
This chapter will analyse discourse on European values - an under-appreciated element of the soft power of the European Union, and then its relevance in the North Caucasus. The main element of this study is an attempt to link discourse on European values with the perception of the EU in the North Caucasus, a territory within Russia that is not officially affected by any policies of European institutions. Additionally, this chapter provides evidence of non-institutional affiliation (Everyday Europeanisation) and the resultant image of Europe and the European Union among representatives of the North Caucasus, which clearly confirms the key components of Europe's values when it comes to the formation of an image of Europe and the discourse on its values, even regarding territories that are not officially affected by EU policy.
