    Gd3Zn4.7Al6.3 crystallizes in the La3Al11 - type of structure (space group Immm, Z = 2, a = 0.42523(6), b = 1.2541(2), c = 0.9988(4) nm). The magnetization and specific heat measured as function of temperature and magnetic field indicate an antiferromagnetic ground state and altogether three magnetic phase transitions at TN = 26.3 K, TC1 = 11.2 K and TC2 = 8.0 K. A metamagnetic transition can be induced at low temperatures in magnetic fields above 5 T.
