Source and basin effects on rotational ground motions: comparison with translations
Original language description
Several M 7 earthquakes with varying source scenarios on the Newport-Inglewood fault embedded in the 3D Los Angeles basin are simulated using a finite-difference method. Source and basin effects on the rotational part of ground motion are compared with those on the translational motion. It is shown that co-processing of translation and rotation recordings might reveal information on local velocity structure as suggested by plane-wave theory
