Dependence of the Magnetopause Position on the Upstream Parameters

  • Original language description

We have collected data set of more than 7000 crossings of the subsolar and flank low-latitude magnetopause observed by five THEMIS spacecraft in course of the 2007-2009 years and analyzed the difference between observed magnetopause radial distances andthose predicted by empirical magnetopause model. The data propagated from the L1 point as well as the measurements of the near-Earth solar wind monitors (whenever available) were used as a model input. The interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) is one of the solar wind parameters which strongly affects the interaction of the solar wind - magnetosphere coupling. In particular, the IMF BZ component is one of the parameters usually accounted in magnetopause models, nevertheless, some models ignore its influence. Moreover, several studies note the influence of a radial IMF orientation on the subsolar magnetopause position. In this study, we compare different effects of upstream conditions on the deviations of observed magnetopause crossings fr
