Call to Adopt a Nominal Set of Astrophysical Parameters and Constants to Improve the Accuracy of Fundamental Physical Properties of Stars (vol 123, 976, 2011)
Original language description
Subsequent to the publication of Harmanec & Prša (2011, PASP, 123, 976) further discussions about the idea of establishing exact nominal constants for the conversion from solar and planetary units to the SI system of units took place during IAU Symposium 282 in Tatranská Lomnica (Slovakia), where participants voted unanimously to propose the idea for consideration by the IAU. Two resolutions were drafted, one to address the issue of solar and planetary constants and a second to address the absolute scale for bolometric magnitudes. At the 2015 IAU General Assembly, both resolutions were passed and are now known as 2015 Resolution B2 on recommended zero points for the absolute and apparent bolometric magnitude scales, and 2015 Resolution B3 on recommended nominal conversion constants for selected solar and planetary properties. They may be found at https://www.iau.org/static/resolutions/ IAU2015_English.pdf. A detailed discussion of the rationale for the new resolutions and instructions for their application have now been published by Prša, Harmanec, Torres, & Mamajek et al. (2016) in ApJ 152, 41. Note that the values of the nominal conversion constants adopted in the new IAU resolutions are different from, and supersede those in the original paper by Harmanec & Prša (2011) in PASP 123, 976. The latter reference should therefore no longer be used.
