Original language description
We investigate the properties of power line harmonic radiation (PLHR)generated by electric power networks. The Kannuslehto station obtains PLHR data withfine resolution from November 2006 to March 2008. We determine the PLHR intensitiesby subtracting the background wave intensities at neighboring frequencies, and we analyzethem with respect to the local time and geomagnetic activity. A unique approach is taken byanalyzing changes in the horizontal component of the geomagnetic field, measured directlyby a ground-based magnetometer near Kannuslehto, instead of using a global geomagneticactivity index, as this better represents the changes relevant to PLHR generation. We showthat PLHR emissions are continuously detected by Kannuslehto, being more intense at oddharmonics, during the day, and periods of large magnetic field changes.
