Study of the Proton Beam Parameters Near the Sun
Original language description
The solar wind often shows two proton populations: a dense proton core anda faster, less dense proton beam. The relative abundance of the proton beam is typically10-20 %, and it drifts relative to the core along the interplanetary magnetic field at about1.2 local Alfven speed. The origin and evolution of the proton beam are not yet fully 'understood. Previous studies using Helios data suggest that the seed of the proton beamforms close to the Sun. In the paper, we investigate the radial evolution of various protonbeam parameters observed by the Parker Solar Probe between 0.05 and 0.7 AU. Wefind that the largest changes of the proton beam parameters (such as relative abundanceand drift velocity) occur up to 0.3 AU. We also study and discuss how the proton beamcharacteristics vary under different conditions in the solar wind, classified by collisionalage and cross-helicity
