Opera singer and actress Soňa Červená (1925–2023) recalled her mother, Žofie Veselíková, as a victim of the Gestapo and the State Security. This image, which she briefly described in her memoirs with the words “She played a double game and lost,” was somewhat corroborated by historian Dalibor Státník, who, more than twenty years ago, focused primarily on the final year of her life and her tragic death in a communist prison. However, as extensive archival documentation reveals, Veselíková was not merely a victim of totalitarian regimes; she lived a much darker and more contradictory life.
