Following the onset of the Nazi occupation in 1939, journalists who were willing to cooperate with the Nazi authorities and disseminate propaganda according to their directives began to rise to prominent positions in the leading Czech newspapers and magazines. A particularly dark, and perhaps the darkest, chapter of the Protectorate press was written by the editorial team of the openly antisemitic periodical Aryan Struggle. Its pages featured denunciatory and informant-driven articles, which were monitored by the Gestapo, thus directly and indirectly influencing the lives of specific individuals.
