Sociální práce s romskými ženami, které prodělaly nedobrovolnou sterilizaci

  • Original language description

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of social work with Romani women who have undergone involuntary sterilization. Involuntary sterilization was one of the measures taken by the communist regime against the Roma minority. Most of these medical procedures were performed without the informed consent of the sterilized women. Some only found out what sterilization was after they were unable to conceive. Besides the fact that women were not free to decide whether or not to have another child, sterilization carried with it social, psychological and physical consequences. The theoretical part focuses on the history of the Roma and the history of involuntary sterilization in our territory, along with the issue of compensation. It describes the policies that were directed against the Roma. The practical work was done using a qualitative research strategy, where semi-structured interviews with five communication partners of involuntarily sterilized Roma women were used. An open coding method was used, which resulted in eight categories. The main objectives of this study are to find out how social work is provided to Roma women who have been involuntarily sterilized and to identify the social, psychological and physical effects of involuntary sterilization. It was found that involuntarily sterilized Roma women face social, psychological and physical impacts of involuntary sterilization that affect their standard of living. This bachelor thesis can serve as a source of information for social work with involuntarily sterilized Romani women or for the majority society.
