Developing an election-winning strategy model without transactional politics: Learning from public elections in Ukraine and Indonesia
Original language description
General elections are a means to realize democracy which influences determining a country's direction and political policies. As a result, the elections are often prone to transactional politics. This study aims to analyze and formulate a strategy model for winning general elections without transactional politics. This case study was taken on the winning of the village head election of Rembang, Central Java, Indonesia, and the presidential election in Ukraine because both countries succeeded in realizing elections without transactional politics at the level of grassroots and presidential elections. This research method uses a qualitative research method with an exploratory approach. The data source for this research is secondary data obtained from 30 national and international news articles as well as 45 literature reviews sourced from the Scopus database during 2019-2022. The research analysis uses Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) with the help of Nvivo 12 plus software. The results of the study show that, first, transactional politics is commonplace in holding elections in democratic countries. However, transactional politics do not affect Zelensky's victory in Ukraine and Gus Faruq's in Rembang, Central Java, Indonesia. Second, Zeensky's and Gus Faruq's victories demonstrate community participation and awareness. Third, Zelensky used social media in a political marketing strategy, while Gus Faruq won the election with the social and cultural capital of the santri community. © 2024 Author(s).
