  • Original language description

The aim of the present study is to analyze a selected group of verbs related to thinking and perceiving, which frequently appear in dialogic spoken texts. The most common forms are the first- and second-person singular, which constitute the main focus of the analysis. The expressions selected for this are the following: myslím (I think), doufám (I hope), předpokládám (I suppose), odhaduju(i) (I reckon), usuzuju(i) (I conclude), (u)soudím (I assume), počítám (I reckon), hádám (I guess), vidíš/-te (you see; sg. and pl.), cítím (I feel), cítíš/-te (you feel; sg. and pl.), poslouchej/-te (listen; sg. and pl.), poslyš/-te (listen; sg. and pl.), podívej/-te (look; sg. and pl.). The primary questions I will attempt to answer are: what functions these words can fulfill in specific contexts, how they contribute to the construction of the text, how they are connected to the relationships between participants in communication, and how their meaning shifts, changes, or even becomes empty. The typical representative of the category of verbs of thinking is myslet (to think). In particular, the first-person singular form, myslím, holds a unique position, which is reflected in lexicographic, syntactic, and pragmatic descriptions. It appears that in certain cases, it does not work as a verb (in terms of clause...
