ABSTRACT ART AS TOOL TO LEARN MATHEMATICS. SUGGESTIONS FROM A VAN DOESBURG'S PAINTINGS

  • Original language description

This paper focuses on the possible links between Mathematics and Art. It shows how to discover mathematical concepts in a painting and how use them to make a suitable observation of this artistic creation. In particular, it presents a reading 'with mathematical eyes' of a picture, titled "Arithmetic Composition I", made by Theo van Doesburg. It provides an example of approach to a picture that can promote the need to use mathematical tools for investigating in depth an artistic composition.
