Verbal nouns requiring reflexive clitics in West-Slavic languages
Original language description
This paper tries to explain on the data from the Czech, Slovak and Polish language corpora, how the reflexive forms of verbs behave during nominalization. It concerns particularly the verb to learn sb sth (učit se, učit sa, uczyć się) and deverbative forms teaching (učení, učenie, uczenie) vs. learning (učení se, učenie sa, uczenie się). I found out that the form teaching expresses meaning of the form learning in some contexts. I put forward arguments that it is necessary to consider the reflexive clitics SE, SA and SIĘ the first object of a given verb, resp. the necessary complement of noun in the function of incongruent attribute. I also point out different phenomena, which are responsible for this kind of elimination of reflexive SE after verbal noun on the example of the verb to learn sb sth on its Czech, Slovak and Polish equivalents.
