The Sudeta Mountains in the Light of Etymology
Original language description
The purpose of the present study is to summarize the existing etymological attempts explaining the oronym Sudetes and to propose a new solution conforming to linguistic, historical and archaeological data. A new solution proposed here assumes an adaptation of the originally Latin designation *Sude:ta, with regard to the Latin expression saxeae sudes, i.e. "rocky peaks, crags", used by Apuleius.
