The authors discuss how FST differs from traditional developmental frameworks, emphasizing the interconnectedness of family members rather than focusing solely on individual behavior. They outline four core principles of FST-holism, organization, feedback, and resilience-and explain how these concepts apply to family interactions in the digital age.The chapter also highlights emerging research areas, including "technoference" (technology disrupting family interactions), family gaming dynamics, and digital monitoring behaviors. It underscores the need for shifting the focus beyond mere "screen time" and calls for new research methodologies to analyze digital family interactions. The authors propose future research directions, emphasizing the importance of digital family ecology, advanced analytical tools, and virtual family therapy interventions.Finally, the chapter provides recommendations for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers, stressing the need to integrate FST perspectives into digital media research, ensure ethical technology development, and support family media planning to promote healthier digital interactions.
